Mishimoto Mazda MX-5 Thermostatic Oil Cooler Kit (1999-2005)

Key Features

  • Direct fit for the 1999-2005 Mazda Miata NB
  • Reduces oil temperatures by 10F (5.6C)
  • Mounting brackets also serve as ducting to channel air to cooler
Mazda MX-5s love track days, but with hot laps come hot oil temperatures. High oil temps can be detrimental to a vast majority of engine components, and a fried piston ring can turn your fun track day and into a costly repair. NB MX-5s come with a stock liquid-to-liquid oil cooler, which is sufficient for daily driving, but just doesn't cut it when it comes to more spirited driving.

During testing, this MX-5 oil cooler kit dropped oil temperatures 10°F (5.6°C) when tested on a 65 mph highway cruise. This MX-5 oil cooler set-up is definitely going to come in handy when you're redlining your engine around the track. The design of the mounting bracket serves as ducting to channel air to the cooler, and it mounts the cooler away from the front bumper to save room for an intercooler. And who doesn't want an intercooler, a turbo, and other forced induction bits? Speaking of forced induction, turbos can also heat-up oil, which makes an oil cooler a vital addition to your boosted MX-5.

This MX-5 oil cooler kit features a billet aluminium thermostatic oil sandwich plate to ensure that your oil reaches optimum temperature before flowing to the cooler. Overcooled oil can be just as dangerous as overheated oil, making this feature especially important in colder climates. This MX-5 oil cooler kit also comes with pre-made stainless steel braided lines with durable -10AN fittings and the Mishimoto Lifetime Warranty, so you can depend on this cooler as much as you depend on your roadster.

Please note: Mishimoto fully inspects and cleans all products prior to packaging. However, it is recommended that customers flush the oil cooler with one quart of clean oil prior to installation to remove any debris accumulated during shipping. Please feel free to contact us at support@mishimoto.com if you have any questions.

The installation of this kit requires cutting the plastic undertray. OEM part number for plastic undertray is NA01-56-111F.

During our testing, we had no issues with oil cooler damage, but if concerned, we recommend purchasing window screen or chicken wire to provide additional protection to the oil cooler core.

Who you are buying from

You are buying from a drift team, not a warehouse.

Our founder competes himself in his own drift E46. Our team build and race the same platforms you drive and work on, and our sponsored drivers chase championships on the same parts we sell worldwide.

01

We have already broken it for you.

Our founder, a full team of sponsored drivers, and hundreds of other drivers worldwide are out competing on this stuff in drift and rally. When we tell you a part is good, the part is good. It has already been put to the test.

“After trying a few better known brands such as Tilton and Extreme, and never being super happy... Conor was able to recommend me the perfect clutch for my application... I havn't broken any drivetrain parts since I installed it.”

Connell O'Kane, 2JZ drift car, 27 Jul 2024

02

Tell us the car. We will spec it.

Chassis codes, spring rates, angle kit clearances, clutch ratings. Send us the car and what you want it to do. The answer comes from someone who has run that setup, not someone reading a product sheet.

Straight answers

The questions you were about to open a chat about.

How do I know it will fit my car?

Send us your chassis code or your reg in the chat and we will confirm before you spend anything. If you order and it turns out to be the wrong part, we swap it.

“Had a mix up with the item description (order wrong part) they was quick to email me and see what part I was meant to order and substituted it for no extra cost!”
Bradley Page, verified customer, 31 Jan 2025

When will it actually arrive?

In stock and ordered before 1pm, it leaves the same day. UK and Ireland is usually next day, occasionally 1 to 3 days. Europe 1 to 5 days, rest of world 3 to 5 days on express.

If something is not in stock, we will email you right away with an ETA and any available substitutes. On the rare occasion it does not work out, we will happily refund your order.

Will I get stung for customs or import VAT?

No. The price you pay on our website is what it will cost to be delivered to your door. You will not receive any surprise surcharges after ordering.

What if I change my mind?

30 days on all stock items, full refund on the parts. If you ordered the wrong thing we will help you get to the right one for as little money as possible. We have been there.

What warranty do I get?

Everything on our website is covered by the standard manufacturer's warranty.

If you ever need to claim, we fight your corner. We will do everything in our power to make sure you are looked after, rather than leaving you to argue with a manufacturer on your own.

Can I pay it off over a few months?

Yes. Klarna and Shop Pay Finance are both at checkout, so you can spread it without putting the build on hold.

Can I just ask someone what to buy?

That is the bit we are actually good at. We run our own race team and workshop, so you are talking to someone who has fitted it, broken it, and fitted it again. Hit the chat and tell us what the car is doing and what you want it to do.
